Training Triceps Long Head
Check out our favorite exercise to target the long head of the triceps!
The long head of the triceps crosses the back of the shoulder joint and is stretched out in shoulder flexion. So, if we start an exercise with our shoulder in flexion, the long head of the Biceps will be in a lengthened position. When a muscle is in a lengthened position, it must work harder to contract fully.
This is important because the long head and the short head both extend the elbow. Thus, when the elbow is extended while the shoulder is in flexion, the long head must work even harder to contract. As a result, the long head is doing the majority of the work and being targeted!
Here is a video of our favorite tricep extension to target the long head of the tricep: Overhead rope extensions!
